New residence : I'm nina by Juan Pablo Zaramella

Juan Pablo Zaramella is one of the winners of the MIFA Pitches 2020, he starts his residency this month for the development of his feature film I’m Nina.

Juan Pablo Zaramella is an independent director and animator. He started studying drawing when he was a child, and he did his first jobs as a cartoonist at the age of sixteen. After his graduation at the Instituto de Arte Cinematografico de Avellaneda as an Animation Director, he started directing and animating his own films. As a result of the recognition of those first works, he started to work in animation for advertisements, directing commercials for renowned international brands. He also worked as an illustrator.
All his independent shorts have been awarded all around the world, and in Argentina he won the most important prize for cinema, Condor de Plata Award, in 3 opportunities.
In 2008 he was selected for Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase in Cannes. In 2010, Annecy International Animation Festival presented a special program with all his works.
His film Luminaris is the most awarded short in history, with 326 international awards, including the Audience Award and Fipresci Award at Annecy 2011, and was in the Oscars Shortlist for Best Animated Short.
Based on Plato’s cave allegory, I'm Nina offers a metaphor of social realities in Latin America with a universal narrative, focusing on essential values for kids: empathy, equality and diversity.

This film, produced by Zumbastico Studios, received support for the development of Ciclic-Région Centre-Val de Loire. Juan Pablo Zaramella, will be in residence from August 29th to October 28th, 2022.

Nina, a rat-girl, lives with her kind in an underground village ruled by a harsh tyranny, believing the universe ends at the limits of their sight. One day she escapes that world and gets to CODA, a colorful place inhabited by fluffy, white rabbits. She's rejected, but Lucas, a shy rabbit helps her to start a new life.
